you've seen the polls nationally tight, romney leading. this is an election that will be decided state by state. how close is the race now? >> the first debate did sort of shift things. at first you had a lot of democrats that were trying to appease themselves by saying oh, all the movement in the polls is a bunch of soft republicans that quote, unquote come home to mitt romney, he shows life and all of this, but i have to say the numbers i've seen and in talking to both campaigns, something shifted fundamentally, and it is a dead heat, but it is one of these even right after the debate with obama campaigning, yes, it is a dead heat but we have the fundamentalists in battleground states. romney folks would have conceded that. this morning, the numbers in the last 72 hours, we are in a dead heat and you see the shift. this means, savannah, this debate couldn't be more critical for president obama because if he loses this debate, then you could start seeing a momentum continue to shift to romney. i think he would pull ahead in a lot of state
